Damian Velasquez will be exhibiting his modern outdoor collection, Half13, at a Molecule opening featuring him and two other innovative designers, Matthew Hilton and Miguel and Rodney Nelson. The Artful Home April Gallery Event is a curated event with the theme of “Bring amazing furniture design outdoors with modern shapes and bright colors.” The event will launch to the public on April 10 and run to the 21st. Focusing on the new outdoor collections of 7 Furniture Artist/Designers, this event will explore the cutting edge of artist made and designed outdoor décor. With recent press ranging from mentions in the New York Times and articles in American Craft Magazine, these artist/designers are combining materials and forms in unusual ways. By combining wabi-sabi esthetics with candy-colored fabricated metal and fiberglass crafted to look like aged concrete, these artists create a realm of outdoor possibilities for the discerning consumer. All of these collections are designed and fabricated in the United States.

Half13: finalist in Design LAB – Design Santa Fe 2012

Chair No. 35 in the Half13 Collection by Damian Velasquez has been selected as a finalist in DesignLAB – Design Santa Fe 2012. From the event: “Winners were selected from entries from all Southwestern states: Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, and Utah. Innovative use of materials, conceptual strength, sustainable resourcing, creative functionality, new rituals for domestic usage, innovative technology, and intriguing innovations of form guided the jurors in selecting the participants for this exhibition.”

Award recipients will be announced at the Exhibition Gala Opening at Zane Bennett Contemporary Art, Friday October 5th, 2012 from 5p-7p.

Gearing up for Dwell on Design 2012

Dwell on Design 2012 is right around the corner and we are excited to be gearing up for the show! Displays, catalogs, website, collateral, and, of course, the furniture! Part of the Half13 collection will be displayed on the deck of a pre-fab home and Damian is putting together a very cool set for the display.

I am working on the collateral: got the catalog off to print, converting our static HTML site to a WordPress theme, getting the social media geared up (yes, I know, just a tad behind schedule). All in all we are having fun, enjoying the spark of creativity that is moving us toward bringing this new collection out into the larger design world.
